Jake Paul dominated Mike Tyson from the third round to win by unanimous decision Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a fight that failed to live up to the hype between a young YouTuber turned boxer and the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion.
Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) even won each of the eight attacks in the eyes of one of the judges while the other two awarded one round each to “Iron Mike”.
Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) started the fight on the right foot, but was shaken by three consecutive left hooks from Paul early in the third round and appeared to lack energy by the sequel.
“I’m happy, I don’t have to prove anything to anyone but myself, I was happy with what I was able to do,” Tyson commented.
After a few blows below the belt during the press conferences leading up to the fight and a slap to Paul’s face by Tyson during the weigh-in, the two pugilists demonstrated mutual respect after the fight.
“First of all, it’s an honor,” Paul said of facing Tyson. Let’s give Mike a big round of applause. He is a legend, the best of all time. I am inspired by him and we wouldn’t be here without him. He is the toughest man on the planet. It was a tough fight as I expected. »
“He’s a great fighter,” Tyson responded, adding that Paul deserved the public’s respect.
Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, were scheduled to meet on July 20, but the fight was postponed after Tyson received medical treatment on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May for an ulcer flare-up .
Paul began his boxing career in 2020 with six consecutive victories fighting primarily against former MMA fighters. Paul’s only loss came against Tommy Fury in February 2023, but he has now won four fights in a row since.
Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion at the age of 20 in 1986, and a year later he unified the three major belts to become the undisputed champion. He defended all three belts six times until his historic defeat by James “Buster” Douglas by knockout. in the 10th round in February 1990.
However, he had not entered the ring in a sanctioned fight since his defeat against Kevin McBride in June 2005.
After the fight, Tyson indicated that his boxing career was probably not over.
” I don’t know. It will depend on the situation. I don’t think this is the end,” Tyson said before joking about a possible fight against Logan Paul, Jake’s brother and YouTube star.
The fight was sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It took place over eight two-minute rounds and both fighters wore 14-ounce gloves instead of the usual 10-ounce gloves for heavyweight fights.

1st round
Tyson does not hesitate to advance aggressively towards Paul from the first moments, forcing him to retreat into the cables. Paul hooks a few times before attempting a few power punches in the second half of the round, but neither boxer hits the target with much authority. Tyson leads 10-9 on the RDS.ca map.

Paul is at ease and throws his jab repeatedly. Tyson then reaches him on a counterattack, without much damage. Paul scores with a combination with about thirty seconds left. Tyson seems to lack the energy to attempt a final attack worthy of the name. Paul wins 78-74 on the RDS.ca card.
Taylor beats Serrano in controversy after 10 spectacular rounds
In the evening’s semi-final, Katie Taylor remained the unified welterweight champion by defeating Amanda Serrano by unanimous decision.
The decision was met with boos after 10 action-packed rounds.
Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) hit her rival more often and with a greater rate of effectiveness, but the three judges saw Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs. ) winning 95-94.
Taylor also took a point deduction for a headbutt in the eighth round.
Taylor was defending her titles for the first time since regaining them from Chantelle Cameron in a rematch in November 2023.
