The meager hope of competing for a bronze medal via the repechage quickly died out for Améline Douarre, after her inaugural defeat. Beaten this Friday in the round of 16 of the Olympic Games in the -62 kg category by the Canadian Ana Paula Godinez Gonzalez (5-2), the 24-year-old wrestler, licensed in Bagnolet, had to count on a surprise performance from her opponent to compete in the repechage, at the Arena Champ-de-Mars.
Already drafted one month before the start of the Olympics due to the withdrawal of the Russians, the reigning French champion could only hope to fight for a bronze medal if her opponent reached the final. The Canadian, however, came up against the Japanese Sakura Motoki (11-0), announced among the favorites and who stood in her way in the quarter-finals.
