Gunther

Gunther has been the WWE World Heavyweight Champion for exactly four months. The Imperium boss continues to dominate the competition while impressing fans and officials alike. Sources just leaked major news about Gunther’s status and future following Monday’s post-Survivor Series RAW, along with praise from higher-ups.

El General del Ring signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in November 2018 and then debuted in January. WWE’s 2024 King of the Ring joined the company to great fanfare after spending the previous 13 years making a name for himself around the world. Gunther went on to hold the NXT UK Championship for a record 870 days and the Intercontinental Championship for a record 666 days. He dethroned Damian Priest as World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam last August.

Gunther and company officials are finalizing the details of a new contract. PWInsider notes that the 37-year-old wrestler is in the final stages of the recruiting process and is signing a multi-year contract. A source said negotiations are either ending or the contract has actually just been signed.

The Vienna Bull has had several WWE officials as supporters for quite some time, including Triple H, who continues to have great admiration for the former WALTER. In an update, the company is now said to be delighted with Gunther’s in-ring work and how he handles media obligations.

Gunther is reportedly signing a long-term contract, but the actual length was not revealed. Behind-the-scenes sources told Fightful Select that, as of Monday, the two sides were close to finalizing the new deal. The sources added that they expect the process to be completed before the end of the year unless unforeseen circumstances arise.

A WWE official stated that Gunther is one of the most professional talents they have worked with. The former PWG World Champion has been entrusted with more interviews and promotional time during his current reign.

Gunther will defend his WWE championship

World Wrestling Entertainment will return to Long Island, NY on December 14 for Saturday’s Night Main Event. The two-hour event will be simulcast on Peacock at 8 p.m. ET and will air on NBC.

There are currently four matches scheduled for the first SNME special since 2008. Below is the updated lineup:

  • Tournament Finals: TBD vs. TBD to crown the first United States Women’s Champion
  • Women’s World Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. IYO SKY
  • World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Finn Balor
  • Undisputed championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens

The event will be broadcast live from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. This is important because it is the location of the inaugural taping of SNME on May 10, 1985. That show was headlined by Hulk Hogan, who retained the WWE Championship against Bob Orton.
