Arsenal Star Faces Setback After Undergoing Surgery for Major Injury”

Mikel Arteta has confirmed a major injury setback for Arsenal as Bukayo Saka has undergone surgery to address a hamstring injury sustained during last weekend’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The England international was forced off the field just 25 minutes into the match, later leaving the stadium on crutches amid fears of a serious issue. Initial scans suggested a potential detached hamstring, and after consulting specialists, surgery was deemed necessary.

Providing an update after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, Arteta said, “He had a procedure, and everything went well. Unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks.”

Saka’s absence adds to Arsenal’s injury woes, with Raheem Sterling—his natural replacement—also sidelined due to a knee injury sustained in training. Despite these challenges, Arteta remains optimistic: “This is a critical moment for us. We need to adapt and find solutions,” he stated ahead of their upcoming matches.

In Saka’s absence, Arsenal edged Ipswich Town at the Emirates, climbing to second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool. Kai Havertz scored the only goal in the 23rd minute, converting a cross from Leandro Trossard for his seventh league goal of the season.

Although Arsenal dominated possession and created several opportunities, they struggled to extend their lead. Gabriel Magalhaes missed a close-range header from a Declan Rice corner, while Martin Odegaard and substitute Mikel Merino were denied by Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Defensively, Arsenal remained solid, restricting 19th-placed Ipswich to just three shots, none of which tested goalkeeper David Raya. Gabriel Martinelli stepped in for Saka on the right wing but the Gunners lacked their usual attacking sharpness.

As Arsenal prepare for tough away games against Brentford and Brighton, Arteta will be looking for a more clinical edge to keep the pressure on Liverpool in the title race.
